In 1896, Swimming was one of the sport at the Olympic for men with 100 meters and 1500 meters freestyle, held in an outdoor pool.

Soon after, exercise pools to gain popularity, more freestyle for wheelchair, followed by swimming backstroke, butterfly, chest, and lastly, the individual sequence.

For various reasons, women are excluded from the pool in some Olympic games early. In 1896 and again in 1906, women can not participate due to the development of the modern games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, held firmly on the assumption, stated in the Victorian era, that women are too weak to follow a competitive sporting event.

Then at the 1912 women’s game to prove themselves that they can compete, then the legitimate right by the International Olympic Committee

The first modern Olympics only bring into four styles, three of them freestyle. The second Olympics in Paris in 1900 include an unusual three games.

One of them is the added challenge, then the second test of endurance that is under the pool, and the third is to swim as far as 4000 meters, the longest and the longest pool game for good. Then it never happened again from the three matches above in use in Olympic sports.

From the initial pool of four simple games, the Olympics has now grown into 32 races pool, 16 for men and 16 for women. Special Olympics include a pool game for people with disabilities and 22 matches for men and 22 for women.
