William Morgan found the volleyball sport in 1895 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) where he served as Director of Physical Education. Morgan was originally called the game of Volleyball, Mintonette.

Name volleyball game came after a demonstration sport, when a spectator commented that the game that involves a lot of “volleying” and later renamed diubahlah Volleyball game.

William Morgan was born in the state of New York and studied at Springfield College, Massachusetts. Ironically in Springfield, Morgan met James Naismith who discovered basketball in 1891.

Morgan motivated by Naismith and basketball games designed for younger students and create a game that is appropriate for an older member of the YMCA.

Basic game of volleyball William Morgan later became popular and the game Faustball originating from Germany and several other sports including: tennis (the net), basketball, baseball and handball.

Morgan Award Trophy is held every year for the athletes male and female of the most talented and accomplished at the volleyball game between the universities in the United States. Foundation established by William G. Morgan in 1995 for a hundred years of volleyball, then the trophy was named in honor of William Morgan.
